Airport Restaurant Month is Back with Great Deals

Posted in At the Terminal

If you feel like it’s too early to have Airport Restaurant Month again, you’re right. The first one was barely six months ago in October 2014, but that’s not stopping HMSHost from rolling out Airport Restaurant Month 2105 in May. Just like last time, airport restaurants all over the country are offering multi-course chef’s tasting menus for a fixed price. While it would certainly be more fun to see each restaurant create their own menu, HMSHost has settled on one fixed menu for all of it’s locations. You get your choice of one of three entrees (salmon, chicken, skirt steak) along with a wedge salad, roasted asparagus, whipped hummus, and a rotating “chefs potato” special. Check out the menu from LAX’s Campanile location:

The prices for the entrees vary by location, but they’re all pretty much in the $20-$30 range.

The promotion was so successful in October that the number of airports involved in Airport Restaurant Week has grown to more than 50 with almost 100 restaurants included. Here’s a list of participating restaurants:

Anchorage International Airport
Baltimore-Washington International Airport
Boston Logan International Airport
Calgary International Airport

I like the idea of Airport Restaurant Month a lot. It encourages people to spend more time in the terminal and treat their trip like more of an event, rather than just a way to get from place to the other. In the future, I hope HMSHost lets their individual restaurant brands have a little more freedom and offer tasting menus created from their own kitchens. It would be fun to fly from Dulles to LAX and get to try a different menu when you depart and when you arrive. Hopefully that’s what the future holds.
