Negative Reviews Force Fiji Airways to Upgrade Economy Food Offerings

File this under: Comment Cards Really Work. Fiji Airways, the (somewhat) newly branded airline that used to be known as Air Pacific, has completed changed what they’re serving in Economy because of the nasty feedback they’ve been getting — according to Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald. Instead of catering boxes filled with sandwiches of unknown origin and a side of coleslaw, Fiji Airways is going back to trays of hot meals on flights to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. Whether that’s a true step up or not remains to be seen, but it’s a good move forward to acknowledge that the catering options they previously had just weren’t working.

They’re upgrading Business Class meals, too, and observing the global trend of using a local chef to give the flight more of a sense of place. Australian Lance Seeto (not to be confused with this guy), chef at the Castaway Island Resort and Fiji’s “Culinary Ambassador,” is creating a signature dish for Business flyers as well as a signature cocktail (and mocktail), all using Fijian produce. The new additions should be available after September 1st. More Fijian chefs will be participating in the future.
