Watch This A380 Go From Parts to Runway

Qatar Airways has taken delivery of their first A380 and they’re celebrating like we all do nowadays: with a series on YouTube. The first video released shows the process of building the A380 from parts rolling through streets to the final product rolling out on the runway. It’s pretty cool to see. Check it out:

  1. Cool video. Is there any reason why the vertical stabilizer gets painted with the livery prior to the transport and the assembly? All the other parts are effectively unpainted until after the aircraft has been fully assembled.

  2. Evidently the amount of paint used on the rudder is significant enough that they need to paint and balance it before it can be mounted to the aircraft. I guess it makes sense…while we think of it as just paint, imagine how much they have to use…everything weighs something……
