Fly&Dine Interview + Giveaway: Delta Points

Posted in Fly&Dine Interview

Happy Four Day Week, Americans! Happy Regular-Sized Week, Everyone Else! We’re back with another edition of the Fly&Dine Interview + Giveaway series and this time it’s with Rene of Delta Points. Rene is the go-to guy for all things Delta on Boarding Area and he was also one of the first to welcome me into the Boarding Area fold. Check out his thoughts on Delta food and more, then scroll down to this week’s giveaway question for your chance to win $50 to Starbucks! First, let’s get to that interview:

1. What’s your favorite thing to eat on Delta flights? Anything that you have to order every single time you fly?

Delta surprisingly has a BUNCH of good eats on-board and clearly most are in 1st class. I LOVE the cold steak and potato salad dish. Could eat it almost every flight. The steaks on international flights are often very good as well as the BBQ chicken transcon. Then there is the travel treats snack box. If I am stuck in coach I always get one of those. Just nummy.

2. Which Delta hub is your favorite to fly out of or through? What are the best food options in that hub?

I would have to say Atlanta. I love 1 flew south and PF Changs there. I love ATL because they have the SkyDeck in the F concourse Skyclub and XpressSpa’s all over the place. Detroit is a close 2nd and the sampler at Chili’s is always good! I loved the Chili’s in ATL that is now PF Changes and the view was the best for tail watching! 🙂

3. Do you think Delta has a better food and beverage program than other carriers? Why or why not?

Boy this is hard for me to answer as I flew 105 segments on Delta last year and then the rest were AF & KLM. Those were all regional but you do get some food there that can be totally OK for a short 1-2hr hop. The only other flight I had to compare the year before was Lufthansa 1st class. Now that is just such a step up from Delta (but as Gary always says Delta does not have real 1st class)!

4. How have you enjoyed the Delta lounges? What’s the spread usually like when it comes to food and drinks? What do you usually go for when you’re in the lounge?
I love my Skyclubs. The free stuff has been only so-so but they are testing new fun stuff and I will sample this week when I do a mileage run and can maybe report back. Don’t get me wrong, the choices are OK bagels and sweet things for breakfast and only chips and some veggies the rest of the day but nothing all that exciting. The KLM ones are MUCH better and do have real food. But as I said, the new stuff on the way will make a difference. What is really fun is running into readers and other bloggers in the Skyclubs!

5. What’s the best destination you’ve ever been to (in terms of food)? What makes it stand out to you?
Oh this one is hard. My heart is in Sweden. The seafood, the cakes. The nummy stuff never ends. There just is so much there. From their famous thin pancakes to waffles, the list is never ending. Plus, I can get a good cup of tea made from Earl Grey — that matters a ton! Then I would say a pizza I had in Rome after a day at the Coliseum was memorable and great!

Thanks Jason for letting me share my Delta travel foodie stuff. One last thing I have to say is always the best on Delta and hits the spot is an ice cream sundae and brandy after dinner. That is the way to end a meal at 32k!

Great! Thanks, Rene. I need to get to one of those SkyClubs to check everything out! Now let’s get this giveaway started. All you have to do is answer this week’s question by the end of Sunday night. Leave your answer in the comments. Ready? Here we go:

  1. Peanut Butter cookies are my favorite, although, I’ll never turn down the Biscoff cookies on a delta flight! They actually sell them at Costco now. 🙂

  2. My wife’s oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with butter-flavored shortening. Fattening, but oh so delicious!

  3. Favorite “stand alone” cookie is chocolate chip…BUT I much prefer my cookies with tea…so pared with tea…BISCOFF or maybe Walker short bread cookies

  4. Snickerdoodles…don’t get me wrong, a biscoff biscuit will do but give me a snickerdoodle and I’m on cloud 9.

  5. My favorite type of cookies is chocolate chip..although when I’m traveling, the biscoff are definitely my favorite!

  6. I love “Hello Dolly” cookie bars made with chocolate, coconut, and nuts with a graham cracker crust.

  7. Gotta be the raw pieces in Ben & Jerry’s chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. No one said it had to be cooked.

  8. I too enjoy the simple Biscoff cookie. Very basic cookie but yet makes me feel better especially those bumpy days in the air. I know they now sell them at Costco, but still I only eat them while flying Delta as I make it the cookie of choice for traveling.

  9. fresh, hot, mrs. fields cookies with their cream and made into a sandwich…..ohh ah!

    Thanks!

  10. Can’t go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie 😉 but my all time fav is the cookies and cream milkshake cookies from the cravory will change your life

  11. I really like Biscoff cookies – I’ve ordered them in the past – especially during the US Airways grand slam promotion, but chocolate chip cookies are my favorite.

  12. Well, actually… my favorite cookies are Swedish Pepparkakor, which is a gingerbread-type cookie that has a taste somewhat similar to Biscoff (which is from Belgium by the way)!

  13. There are many types of cookies that I love to bake, but in general they are shortbreads. Although yesterday I made a batch of cashew butter cookies that we very well received at my work.

  14. Shortbread cookies for me!! Every day, at every time! I just love the buttery taste! Yumm…
Did you know that they are Scottish in origin, and that they were once only served during Christmas and New Year’s Eve?
If you’d like to add a coffee, cinnamon or chocolate flavor you can add a tablespoon of espresso powder, cinnamon or chocolate chips to the basic shortbread batter! Trust me, they are even more delicious! 🙂

  15. Biscoff cookies are the best, the best thing about travelling with my husband…..I get to eat his Biscoff cookies!
