#RidiculeAirPlaneFood is Trending on China’s Version of Twitter

I’m always on the lookout for news about food on airplanes, so imagine my surprise when I came across this story on Kotaku, a gaming blog owned by Gawker Media. Basically, there’s a trending topic on Weibo (China’s version of Twitter) this week with the hashtag #RidiculeAirPlaneFood  (or #å槽飞机é¤# if you’re so inclined). Apparently, it involves Weibo users posting photos of their worst airplane meals. Eric Jou, the author, says:

As someone who travels by plane at least eight times a year, I consume a lot of airplane food. Of the variety plane food I’ve eaten over the years, Chinese airplane food has been probably on average the worst. Well, according to Chinese social networking site Weibo, I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a Weibo account to check it out (and I’m not signing up as I don’t exactly trust the handling of my personal information by a company who is under the oversight of Beijing), but the post has a few photos of Air China meals and I have to say… they look pretty bleak.

Just look at this:

Like Elsewhere, Chinese Airline Food Doesn't Look So Great

It’s listed as an international meal. Linguine and marinara? Come on, Air China. You’re better than that, right?

Have you ever flown Air China? What’s your experience been like?

  1. I’ve flown Air China in coach PEK – SFO, and that was enough. The Chinese option was much better. Although, can’t get over the fact that they had preserved egg in a sealed package for the congee/porridge breakfast.
