Eat. Alabama. Never Say No to Miss Myra’s Peanut Butter Pie.

What: Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q

Where: Vestavia Hills, AL

What makes it special

Every food lover has a fantasy about stumbling across an out-of-the-way restaurant that hasn’t been buzzed about relentlessly on food blogs and in magazine profiles. Miss Myra’s is exactly that type of place. Right next to Birmingham is the (surprisingly) progressive enclave of Vestavia Hills. Hidden amongst the Cahaba Heights neighborhood is this barbecue local legend. You can order all the standards here: pulled pork, smoked beef, etc., but the real winner is the smoked chicken. It’s not the chicken itself that catches the eyes of BBQ fans. It’s the unique white bbq sauce, a holy concoction of mayo and vinegar that puts a creamy tang on every bite of chicken (assuming you’ve doused your chicken in sauce). When you’re finished, you’re almost legally required to order a piece of Miss Myra’s famous peanut butter pie, a sweet bite of Southern living on a graham cracker crust that just may inspire you to buy a whole dang pie on your way out.

In your own words

“There’s nothing fancy about Miss Myra’s and that’s the way it should be. In a city like Birmingham that’s dripping with barbecue options, Miss Myra’s stands out for putting their own little twist on the classics and making it all sublime.”
